Photo Blog: Hike to the highest peak in the Western Ghats

Photo blog? What’s that?  It’s a stripped-down version of the original blog offering less words and more photographs! So, those that don’t enjoy reading can have a glimpse of my photographs!  This photo blog portrays magnificent photographs en route a hike to the highest peak in the Western Ghats.  At an altitude of about 8,841 feet from the sea level, Anamudi, is the highest peak on the Western Ghats and outside the Himalayan mountain ranges.  Due to its reserve forest status, permissions are, typically, provided only to researchers and surveyors.  With travelers kept of out of reach, the only alternative is to trek to the second highest peak.  At an altitude of about 8,661 feet, Meesapulimala is the second highest peak in the Western Ghats.  Perched around the splendid tea estates of Munnar, within the Silent Valley Forest, is the base camp.  This base camp, managed and maintained by the Kerala Forest Development Corporation Ltd, offers camping equipment and all that’s needed for this trek.   On a moderately cold winter morning, we got behind the wheels at Coimbatore and zipped past Udumalpet, Chinnar wildlife sanctuary, Marayur and the many winding roads leading towards Munnar to reach our base camp.  The thrills and goosebumps that one gets to feel atop the highest peak in the Western Ghats is worth every penny.

Get mesmerized by the magnificent photographs from one of the beautiful valleys down south on the Western Ghats en route Meesapulimala peak!
