Flavors of Marghazi | An Extravagant Mylapore Festival | 2023

The holy month of Marghazi (the 9th month of the Tamil Calendar year) is beautiful in countless ways. The numerous religious discourses & music festivals all through this Tamil month is a fascinating experience that draws art lovers from all over the world to this part of India in Chennai. It’s a carnival like atmosphere. Fondly, this period of the year from mid of December to the mid of subsequent January, is referred to as the Music and Dance Season. Although, several cultural events dot the various venues across Chennai, there’s nothing like an experience at Chennai’s oldest neighborhood – Mylapore. Popularly known as the religious and cultural epicenter of Chennai, it’s one of my most loved places in the city. The narrow lanes (known as Maada Veedhi – the streets around the iconic Kabaleeswarar temple) offer a vibrant experience. Be it the sounds of the temple bells, aroma of Coffee beans, tempting traditional food joints, jewelry showrooms, the list goes on.

Every January, a four-day cultural festival gets underway at Mylapore. For the past two years, the pandemic played spoilsport and hampered such wonderful gatherings. This year the event was back with a grand celebration. I was eagerly waiting for this event. The neighborhood of Mylapore has been bustling with activities ranging from Music Concerts, games, Pullikolam & Rangoli contests, and Classical Dance performances to name a few. As a person who loves such varied art forms, it was a fantastic opportunity to soak in the festive season and photograph the beautiful moments. A magnificent display of cultural exuberance. Events of such grand scale require elaborate planning and execution. The entire sequence of events was remarkably organized by Sundaram Finance.

WHERE ARTISTS CONVERGED!

It’s never easy to be amongst a large gathering vying for space, especially to get those perfect photographs. As an avid photographer, I always keep an eye on perfect compositions. Not settling for mediocre results. Presenting the best photographs from the Sundaram Finance Mylapore Festival 2023:

  1. Excellent photograph. It takes me to the real live event. One of my favourite place is mylapore. The traditional culture still shines over there. Wonderful coverage of all the events with beautiful shapes.
